i am working on a painting with a floating figure. how do you approach the problem of a 'floating' model. i'm leaning toward taking a photo of someone as they fall back, but i'd like to hear your suggestions, since you do it so well. (all this is if you are willing, of course.)
anon - just basic ref that I then build off, except for the helmet, i splashed out on an old battered soviet era helmet i've got sitting around my studio - its awesome!
isaac - if you're using photo ref you've got to be careful, falling back might work, although you're going to be screwed with getting the image crisp. I never use a single ref shot, but grab theref I need from many images, and bring them together as a single figure in the drawing and painting. Having to pull those disparate chunks together is also good to make you really think about what you're painting, how the light falls and cloth/skin work together, rather than just relying on what the ref tells you.
i sell my paintings when they're available through my contact list, if you're not on there and want to be added, goto my website and check the box in the contact area, along with your email address.

Your characters seem so lost in the isolation of their detachment-certainly a modern dissertation of the times.
Beautiful Jem.
