Tarantula Nebula

Another image from the Astronomy Picture of the Day, slightly levelled and colored by me.

This ones of the Tarantula Nebula. Here's an expanded shot.


And it keeps going, it is so large as to be essentially inconceivable. It takes just over 8 minutes for light from the Sun to reach the Earth, and 5.3 hours for it to reach Pluto. For light to get from one end of the Tarantula Nebula to other, it takes around 1000 years.

As Douglas Adams said,

'You might think it's a long way down to your local corner shop, but that's just peanuts compared to space.'

Second Mockup Painting

Here's another mockup pic for a larger painting which is well under way. In the final version I've extended the image further out on the right.
